Description

The original 229-bed hospital was open on 18 September 2004, offering overnight patient accommodation, ambulatory care facilities, an emergency department, inpatient and community adult mental health facilities, as well as a range of support services including: Theatres and Central Sterilizing Services, Diagnostic Imaging, Pathology, Allied Health, Pharmacy, Education and Administration areas.

The initial hospital’s capacity of up to 30 000 patients and 25 000 emergency presentations each year has continued to grow including additional Special Care Nursery (since December 2010) and a current 30 beds sub-acute redevelopment, opened in 2014.

The 25 years (post construction) contract with Plenary Health is to design, build, finance and provide a range of facility services for the hospital including building services, helpdesk, security, grounds, car parking, pest control, external cleaning and training.

The 2015-16 Victorian State Budget allocated $106.3 million for an expansion of Casey Hospital. In October 2016 the Government committed an additional $28.6 million to the expansion, bringing Government's total capital commitment to $134.9 million. The expansion adds 128 new multi-day beds and increases the floor area of the hospital by approximately 12,700sqm through a new multi-storey tower that connects with the existing hospital.
